Summer Vacations: Where Are You?

31st April, the most awaited day of the year. I still remember those beautiful childhood days when we use to wait for this ‘last day of the batch’. I as a child, youngest among the four, always used to plan in advance.  No restrictions of early wake-ups, no homework, no school bags, no uniforms and above all NO DISCIPLINE.

As a 90’s kid, I have came a long way and cannot forget those beautiful ”Carefree” days of childhood, when we were really children, children with no stress of future, just living and enjoying the present childhood. No other later generations can understand the happiness and contentment of ‘life during summervacations’ of 90’s kids.

I still cherish remembering how I used to set alarms to wake up early to go to Khajrana Mandir with friends on cycle, joining library for reading Amar Chitra Katha, Archies, Twinkle and what not. The most treasured games were Gulli-Danda, Express, Sitoliya, slow-cycling, eating mangoes, sleeping on terrace and counting stars all night. These today’s kids do not know what they have missed. I used to sleep with my Grand-mother, and I would never let her sleep without listening a ’New Story’. Where are those Grand-mothers gone? I can’t find them anywhere.

Out of those two months, one month trip to ‘Nana-Nani’ and “dada-Dadi’ was fixed as a rule. Playing Carrom-Board, Cards, Ludo etc in afternoon in front of coolers was a compulsory condition by mothers, which if not maintained would result in several restrictions like handwriting classes, drawing classes and dance classes. So, I personally would always prefer to accept all her rules to enjoy summers without any pain.

The best part of these summer vacations was that, the end was also as exciting as the beginning of holidays. We all were very excited to meet friends, buy new books, new school dresses and shoes. These summer vacations used to rejuvenate children to work again and study hard for the new term.

Unlike today, the schools are never closed, the children are 24/7 shifting from one school to another. This results in boredom and frustration. Parents are treating children like horses; this is the basic reason in increase in crime and depression in children. Our government should reestablish the old education system again to save our youth from these mental disorders.

Is Beauty Restricted to a Fair Skin?

Throughout the day, 24/7, I can see fairness creams advertisements visuals on Television screens. All models on-screen are possessing fair and light color skin, even the boys with light-color skin are more often accepted onscreen. Today’s youth is blindly running after cosmetics and make-ups to lighten their skin-tone.
Everyday new cosmetics are launched to attract young boys and girls, these cosmetics are selling virally with a motive to lighten the Asian skin.  But, is “Looking Beautiful” limited to fair skin only. People with brown skins are not beautiful? Possessing beautiful features are not the part of being beautiful? Does a beautiful smile needs any reference to the complexion of the holder? Do you really feel that those captivating and magnetic eyes are restricted to the skin color?

The Irony

No! Not exactly! I don’t feel so. Whenever I see someone smiling I never notice the color of the skin. Today, all models are running for skin lightening and even the girls with ‘not-so-good’ features are getting roles because of the fair skin color. Why? I still remember certain leading actresses in their career start days, they were having ‘Indian skin tone’, but, now they are having ‘very fair skin’ how? It’s all because ‘WE’ the audiences are giving more attention to the color complexion instead of the real beauty of features.

The Stepping Stone

I truly appreciate NDTV for taking the first step towards not showing the ‘Fairness Creams Ads’ and thus starting one of their best campaigns against the wrong notion in the society that, “WHITE IS BEAUTIFUL, DARK IS  UGLY”. Since 2015, NDTV is not showing such fairness cream advertisements on their channel.

The Bottom line

We as parents, as colleagues and mentors should take the responsibility to educate our children, friends and students to see themselves beyond the limitations of skin-color.  As the real beauty is not restricted to color, features and figure etc as you might not be same after some years. But, the real beauty is in the talent, behavior, nature and mainly how you take life as.

Foods to Increase Immunity

Today, when we all are facing several immunity and digestion related diseases even at an early age, we all need to focus on our selection of foods and dietary planning. Nowadays, everyone is consulting a dietitian on a daily basis. This was not common long back as these dietitians were restricted only to patients, sports persons and models. Everybody else ate whatever was cooked and the food was digested very easily. People were active and healthy even in old-age. The food habits at that era were very different from today, as the children never counted what they ate. They were playing in schools and even after returning from schools they were actively cycling and playing outdoor sports.

Food or Calories?

But, now every item in the Tiffin is counted in the text of calories and carbohydrates. It’s not your favorite vegetable or desert you eat? It’s in the terms of calories and carbohydrates you are eating. Our brain is commanding all our organs for their respective tasks, so when we eat in the terms of calories not taste or liking our Brain takes it the command in that manner only and that is the reason behind our diseases related to digestion and immunity. It results in indigestion and dissatisfaction, the food we eat only satisfies our hunger not our brain, you still feel the need to eat something tastier and that is the reason behind all diseases.

Foods to Increase Happiness and Immunity

I think the lifestyles and the food habits few decades back was very healthy and if not totally but at least to some extent we should accept those habits of physical activities and eating your favorite foods for a better health and contentment. Instead of eating tasteless foods and counting calories, we should start eating fresh and nutrient rich foods to give you a feeling of satisfaction and happiness. It’s this feeling of happiness which will keep you away from several diseases. So, now I expect all the readers to control the intake of supplements and dietary foods and replace it with fresh home-made nutritious foods for happiness and immunity against several diseases.

Cancer: The Silent Killer

The increase in the air air-pollution over the years has effects on the human skin. Though our skin acts as a shield against these air pollutants, but still it has severe negative effects on the skin. Today, when cancer is taking over almost every fifth person on an average, it becomes very necessary to protect ourselves from this dangerous disease. As the summers are approaching, the harmful UV Rays of sun are going to affect us directly. It’s not only in summers but even throughout the year our skin faces the attacks of several weather differences, climatic changes, rays from computer and gas burners, etc.

These rays coming from sunlight, gas-burners, computers and even the air pollution from vehicles, dust and dirt etc are affecting after skin in a negative way. The smoke from vehicles is very harmful for our lungs and skin. This pollution is causing several dangerous diseases to people of all ages.

Sunscreens To Protect Skin

“The prevention is better than cure.” The best remedy to cancer is the precaution from the disease. These sun-screens protect the skin facing the sun and exposed to air. Due to these air-pollutants and chemicals, the person is more prone to catch these diseases. These sun-screens contain chemical filters, which are combination of two or more ingredients like avobenzone, oxybenzone, octsalate, octocrylene, etc.

Sunscreens are also known as “Sunblock” are rich in minerals like zinc oxide. It absorbs the radiations from the UV Rays of sunlight and saves the skin for some time. The increased use of sunscreens and sunblocks can control wrinkles, aging and sagging of skin also.
Sunscreens are commonly rated and labeled with sun protection factor (SPF). The power of the SPF decides the fighting capacity of the sunscreen lotion, like SPF 15, SPF 20. The greater the power the greater is the protection against the UV Rays of the sun.

Indore: A Hat-Trick of Cleanliness

Dry and Wet Wastes
Swacch Bharat Abhiyan is a nation-wide campaign in India  for the period of 2014 to 2019 to clean the street, roads and the whole nation was involved in the abhiyaan. All females and males took over the plan seriously and the dustbins of dry and wet wastes were used. This program was highly advertised and accepted all over India; even the villages participated and took this swacch Bharat Abhiyaan to great heights.

Open Defecation Free

Several public toilets were constructed during this mission. Most of the rural villages were covered under this plan to make our country Open DefecationFree country. In 2014, 86 million toilets were constructed all over the country. The major problem for our government was to encourage people to use these toilets, as the rural citizens were not ready to use them.

Indore: No 1 Since Three Years

Indore had done Hat Trick on Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan on the position of No.1. in cleanliness. Blue and green dustbins are kept on every 1 km distance. Plantations are encouraged everywhere on national level. Several gardens are created in the colonies to make the city green and a good place for citizens. Since last three years Indore is winning the top position in the contest and credit goes to our Mayor Mrs. Malini Laxman Gour. She is the working Mayor since 2015 and it’s her efforts that the city is winning the contest since last three years.

All roads and highways are cleaned every night and this cleaning is done on daily basis. Several automated machines are purchased by our municipal corporation to clean roads. All street lights are checked time to time for maintenance.  Government has started toll-free number 311 mobile app to complain to cleanliness issues. Our public is motivated to keep a track of cleanliness of our city.
Government had also encouraged people to make fertilizers at home with the household wastes to control the waste management program on national front.

Our government has taken this program to a great height and every Indian citizen is involved in the mission to keep the country clean and green.

Happiness: An Extinct Emotion

Today, when the whole world is active on social media and uploading their smiling photos with friends and families I feel that the real happiness is fading away in these fake expressions of happiness. Today’s youth is more targeted to upload photos and videos rather than actually enjoying the moment. They post stories and live videos on Instagram and several other Social Media Channels. While doing all this they forget to actually experience the occasion and they miss the real fun of life.

The Fake Happiness

They are living life for others to see their photos and videos instead of living for their own self to learn and experience life the way it comes. They don’t remember what they actually felt while on a holiday or a trip; because they were busy uploading photos and videos at that time. Their friends are impressed by their “status and likes” records. And then they too start planning for a more adventurous trip to post updates of Social Media. They are doing all this not to gain experience but to gain “likes’ and “Views”

The Magnetic Aura of Fake Happiness

Today, all old and young get attracted towards the face book followers and likes records. They have started using “metrics” to measure “happiness”, instead of “smiles”.
I still remember those beautiful childhood summer holidays when we all used to spray water on our terrace and spread beds with mosquito nets to sleep on roof-top. i still remember watching those beautiful stars till late night. We don’t have any photos or videos of that time but still I remember each and every moment and incidence of those days as the most beautiful part of my memory-lane.

Our mothers and grandmothers never clicked our photos to make us feel how important we were for them? But, on the contrary they never forgot to make our favorite pickle, jam and foods for us to ensure our good health and happiness in that small steel Tiffin-box. How genuine our smiles were those days? How real their love was without any “likes” or views” or “comments” of anyone who was not involved. That love and happiness was as pure and sacred as my grandmother’s love for us. She taught us to be “happy” even when we don’t have a single penny in our pockets. That was the real “happiness” which is “endangered” now.
