Summer Vacations: Where Are You?

31st April, the most awaited day of the year. I still remember those beautiful childhood days when we use to wait for this ‘last day of the batch’. I as a child, youngest among the four, always used to plan in advance.  No restrictions of early wake-ups, no homework, no school bags, no uniforms and above all NO DISCIPLINE.

As a 90’s kid, I have came a long way and cannot forget those beautiful ”Carefree” days of childhood, when we were really children, children with no stress of future, just living and enjoying the present childhood. No other later generations can understand the happiness and contentment of ‘life during summervacations’ of 90’s kids.

I still cherish remembering how I used to set alarms to wake up early to go to Khajrana Mandir with friends on cycle, joining library for reading Amar Chitra Katha, Archies, Twinkle and what not. The most treasured games were Gulli-Danda, Express, Sitoliya, slow-cycling, eating mangoes, sleeping on terrace and counting stars all night. These today’s kids do not know what they have missed. I used to sleep with my Grand-mother, and I would never let her sleep without listening a ’New Story’. Where are those Grand-mothers gone? I can’t find them anywhere.

Out of those two months, one month trip to ‘Nana-Nani’ and “dada-Dadi’ was fixed as a rule. Playing Carrom-Board, Cards, Ludo etc in afternoon in front of coolers was a compulsory condition by mothers, which if not maintained would result in several restrictions like handwriting classes, drawing classes and dance classes. So, I personally would always prefer to accept all her rules to enjoy summers without any pain.

The best part of these summer vacations was that, the end was also as exciting as the beginning of holidays. We all were very excited to meet friends, buy new books, new school dresses and shoes. These summer vacations used to rejuvenate children to work again and study hard for the new term.

Unlike today, the schools are never closed, the children are 24/7 shifting from one school to another. This results in boredom and frustration. Parents are treating children like horses; this is the basic reason in increase in crime and depression in children. Our government should reestablish the old education system again to save our youth from these mental disorders.

Is Beauty Restricted to a Fair Skin?

Throughout the day, 24/7, I can see fairness creams advertisements visuals on Television screens. All models on-screen are possessing fair and light color skin, even the boys with light-color skin are more often accepted onscreen. Today’s youth is blindly running after cosmetics and make-ups to lighten their skin-tone.
Everyday new cosmetics are launched to attract young boys and girls, these cosmetics are selling virally with a motive to lighten the Asian skin.  But, is “Looking Beautiful” limited to fair skin only. People with brown skins are not beautiful? Possessing beautiful features are not the part of being beautiful? Does a beautiful smile needs any reference to the complexion of the holder? Do you really feel that those captivating and magnetic eyes are restricted to the skin color?

The Irony

No! Not exactly! I don’t feel so. Whenever I see someone smiling I never notice the color of the skin. Today, all models are running for skin lightening and even the girls with ‘not-so-good’ features are getting roles because of the fair skin color. Why? I still remember certain leading actresses in their career start days, they were having ‘Indian skin tone’, but, now they are having ‘very fair skin’ how? It’s all because ‘WE’ the audiences are giving more attention to the color complexion instead of the real beauty of features.

The Stepping Stone

I truly appreciate NDTV for taking the first step towards not showing the ‘Fairness Creams Ads’ and thus starting one of their best campaigns against the wrong notion in the society that, “WHITE IS BEAUTIFUL, DARK IS  UGLY”. Since 2015, NDTV is not showing such fairness cream advertisements on their channel.

The Bottom line

We as parents, as colleagues and mentors should take the responsibility to educate our children, friends and students to see themselves beyond the limitations of skin-color.  As the real beauty is not restricted to color, features and figure etc as you might not be same after some years. But, the real beauty is in the talent, behavior, nature and mainly how you take life as.

Salts To Cure Blood Pressure

Surprised! Right….I am sure you are surprised to read that even salts can cure Blood Pressure. But, seriously “YES”, as per Ayurveda science, the natural and raw salts are harmless and are rather good for our body, they not only regulate the water retention in our body but are the rich sources of several necessary and rare minerals. These salts are very necessary to control our blood pressure.

The Processed Salts

Today, as soon as someone is detected of high blood pressure, our Doctor’s immediately reduce the salts and start medicines to control the salt-level in our body to control the blood pressure. But, this is not the correct method because as soon as you stop the salt intake, your body gets deprived of several minerals which are required in very small quantities and are supplied through these salts. Finally, you may control your blood pressure but you start facing other problems like lack of potassium or sodium.

So, in this way you develop several other diseases in the process of curing one disease. So, now I suggest you a better way, in this you will not only control your blood pressure but will also maintain the levels of other necessary minerals.

These natural salts are rich sources of several minerals and nutrients which are very helpful in building immunity and enhancing the general health. They are, Sea-Salt, Rock Salt, Black Salt, Crystalline Salt, Pink Salt and several others as every sea-water is producing a different color salt with a different variety and composition of nutrients. So, this way every salt is different from others.

As Ayurveda Says

In olden days, the Ayurveda doctors used to use salts of different rovers and seas to cure different kinds of diseases. These salts are so strong that they can regulate your mood and temperament in a very less time. So, we should prefer using these natural rock salts in the place of bleached and processed white salts.

Holi: The Festival of Forgiveness

Holi, is celebrated every year on Poonam (Full-Moon Day). One day before Holi, is celebrated as victory of “Good” over “Evil”. It also signifies the arrival of Spring and end of winters. This festival is celebrated to rebond with old friends and forgive each other. It symbolizes a fresh and new start of healthy relationships with colors, laughter and playful manner.

In villages our farmers burn Holika and submit the new harvest of wheat to goddess Holika as the thanksgiving of good harvest. This “Holika Dahan” is done one night before “dhulandi”. Holika was the sister of demon King Hiranyakashyap. Her sister was blessed that if she wears a shawl given by gods, she will not be burned or affected by fire. Prahalad was his son and was an ardent follower of Lord Vishnu. The king hated his son so he tells his sister Hollika to take Prahalad in her arms and sit on a fire bed to punish Prahalad. But as soon as Hiranyakashyap sets fire the holy shawl was taken away by wind and the Hollika dies due to burning and Prahalad was left unaffected and saved by Lord Vishnu. Then Lord Vishnu takes the avatar of “Narsimha” and kills Hiranyakashyap.

Since then, Hollika is burnt every year and next day is celebrated as Holi, the festival of colors, forgiveness and victory of Good over Evil. Dhulandi is widely celebrated in India and Nepal. But it is also celebrated in United States, Canada, Jamaica and several other countries with Indian population.

On this day, people roam in groups and carry drums and other musical instruments to dance and play Holi with everyone in the city.  People visit their enemies today and play colors with them.
Children throw colored water filled balloons and play with colors. They spray colored water on each other with water-guns commonly known as “Pichkari”. Several snacks are prepared at home for the celebration. People eat Gujiya, Chakli and khopra barfi etc. we all should celebrate this festival forgiving and forgetting all grudges and disputes.

Holi: The Festival of Love And Colors

Holi is celebrated all over India as the festival of colors, love, togetherness and forgiveness. People all over the country have already started planning for the welcome of this festival. Several designs and varieties of pichkari and colors are displayed all over the market. The whole market is decorated with pichkari’s and gulaal (color) packets. Nowadays, herbal colors are highly trending in the market to attract buyers.

Eco-Friendly Colors

Eco-friendly colors are highly tending nowadays; these are easily washable and don’t harm the skin. They are made by natural flowers extracts instead of previously used harmful chemical colors. These chemical colors were very harmful on skin and caused several skin allergies. Some sensitive people suffered from several skin and other related problems due ti these chemical colors.

Eco-Friendly Gulaal

In olden days, people played dry Holi with “Gulaal”, these are powdered form of colors and are very easy on skin. They don’t leave any stains and thus are termed as eco-friendly also. But, today even these “Gulaal” are highly adulterated and it is difficult to identify the chemical or organic gulaal without using it. Chemical gulaal is highly irritable and it causes redness and swelling on the skin. Sometimes, rubbing dry gulaal causes scars and rashes on sensitive skins.

Pichkaris or Sprayers

Pichkaris or sprayers are attractive sprayers to throw or spray colored water on each other. These are available in variety of colors and patterns all over the market. These are easily available online also. All children love to play Holi with these pichkari’s.

Colored Balloons

Small rubber balloons filled with color water are very prevalent on the Holi-day. People throw these water filled balloons on each other. They are available in variety of sizes and colors. Nowadays even special tools are available to fill more than 30-40 balloons at a single time.

These festivals are celebrated to enhance love, togetherness and bonding between all of us. We should try to celebrate festivals in a healthy way to encourage this basic logic behind the celebration of this festival. “I wish you all a happy and healthy Holi of love and togetherness”
