HUNGRY KYAA ?

It’s 2 PM and children are rushing back home from a tedious and hard day. Some tired and dull half asleep and others hungry and excited to eat something good at home. Now, what I wanted to discuss is what do you serve to these kids as mothers as caretakers and as parents. It’s your liability to nourishyour children with good and balanced food. Today mothers are not so worried about the nutritional point of view of their children’s diet.

I can give thousands of examples of mother’s serving cookies or Maggie as lunch to their children after they return from school. Let me ask you one thing, is this what you were served by your parents when you were a child. I remember my school days, when my mother and grandmother used to cookfresh food for us when we returned from school and we ate hot complete food with vegetables rice and pulses.

This was not the only case of lunch, but even in breakfast while going to school, the children of that era were forced to eat parathas, hot milk and almonds as daily diet. This gave them strength for the whole day. This breakfast gave nourishment and energy for the whole day and the children were very energetic and sporty at that time.

Children had only one personal conveyance at that time and it was “A Cycle”. Going to school by cycle was highly trending those days and thus the children were very fit and energetic due to these regular exercises twice a day.

But, where are those mothers gone?  Is a big question in the society of dull and obese children? Parents blame children for this and forget that somewhere they only are responsible for all this. Their lack of interest in cooking balanced and nourished food is the major reason behind these under-nourished and sick children. By ‘sick’ it doesn’t mean that the child is medically unfit, but it means that the child is deficient of several necessary nutrients due to increased intake of junk foods and aerated drinks.

So, when your child comes from school today, cook the world’s best home-made food full of nutrients love and mothers touch for him/her. This will be the best gift you could ever give to your children.

Hair Styles in Vogue Since Ancient Times

Hair styling is in fashion since ancient times. People n ancient times pleaded their hair and rolled them to look beautiful and fascinating. Even in the Stone Age, the paintings and carvings in the cages show several proofs of hair styling. The kings and queens invested long hours on hair styling, rolling and braiding their hair. The women in primitive ages also loved to do hair-do and make-over’s, though they used primitive tools for the same.

The Ancient Hair-Styles

The oldest ‘Hair Braiding” dates back 30000 years approximately. It was the time when the women with longest hair was considered as the most attractive and fascinating women as compared to the women with not-so-long or dull hair. It continued till the start of the middle age, but during this era, the great revolution took place. The masses started dressing their hair in variant complicated styles like, Rolling, Buns and other. They started decorating their hair with ornaments and natural items like flowers and leaves.

The Changes in 15th and 16th Century

During the 15th and 16th  century, these trends changed and the European men started maintaining their hair up to shoulders, and then later on the trend of rolled and curled hair came into existence.

The invention of Wigs

The King Louis XIIII of France, started the trend of male-wigs. These wigs were very expensive and were used by the upper class as a symbol of their status. Later on the length and styles were changed in these wigs till the middle 19th century. It was the time when wigs were totally out-of-fashion and men loved to get their hair-cut short. It was the time when the hair styling clips were not used and people started leaving their hair open or styled the in huge buns.
In the middle of 19th century, the women also started using wigs for styling complicated hair-styles. It continued till the end of 19th century.
By the start of 20th century, the trends were totally changed as the internet was invented and everyday people searched new designs on net to get their hair styled in the latest trends.
Even after these changing trends, there are a few hair-styles which are still in trend since ancient ages. These are Buns and Braids. People in primitive ages rolled their hair to look attractive. Often women rolled their hair in buns to look acceptable. The ‘Braids’ are one of the oldest hair style , the women in ancient paintings are braiding each other hair or even queens are seen in braids.
In the end, I would say that the hair-styles are just rotating over and over again after years and ages. The women and men love to change their hair-do’s but still the styles are same as they used to be long back in ancient times.

Summer Vacations: Where Are You?

31st April, the most awaited day of the year. I still remember those beautiful childhood days when we use to wait for this ‘last day of the batch’. I as a child, youngest among the four, always used to plan in advance.  No restrictions of early wake-ups, no homework, no school bags, no uniforms and above all NO DISCIPLINE.

As a 90’s kid, I have came a long way and cannot forget those beautiful ”Carefree” days of childhood, when we were really children, children with no stress of future, just living and enjoying the present childhood. No other later generations can understand the happiness and contentment of ‘life during summervacations’ of 90’s kids.

I still cherish remembering how I used to set alarms to wake up early to go to Khajrana Mandir with friends on cycle, joining library for reading Amar Chitra Katha, Archies, Twinkle and what not. The most treasured games were Gulli-Danda, Express, Sitoliya, slow-cycling, eating mangoes, sleeping on terrace and counting stars all night. These today’s kids do not know what they have missed. I used to sleep with my Grand-mother, and I would never let her sleep without listening a ’New Story’. Where are those Grand-mothers gone? I can’t find them anywhere.

Out of those two months, one month trip to ‘Nana-Nani’ and “dada-Dadi’ was fixed as a rule. Playing Carrom-Board, Cards, Ludo etc in afternoon in front of coolers was a compulsory condition by mothers, which if not maintained would result in several restrictions like handwriting classes, drawing classes and dance classes. So, I personally would always prefer to accept all her rules to enjoy summers without any pain.

The best part of these summer vacations was that, the end was also as exciting as the beginning of holidays. We all were very excited to meet friends, buy new books, new school dresses and shoes. These summer vacations used to rejuvenate children to work again and study hard for the new term.

Unlike today, the schools are never closed, the children are 24/7 shifting from one school to another. This results in boredom and frustration. Parents are treating children like horses; this is the basic reason in increase in crime and depression in children. Our government should reestablish the old education system again to save our youth from these mental disorders.

Is Beauty Restricted to a Fair Skin?

Throughout the day, 24/7, I can see fairness creams advertisements visuals on Television screens. All models on-screen are possessing fair and light color skin, even the boys with light-color skin are more often accepted onscreen. Today’s youth is blindly running after cosmetics and make-ups to lighten their skin-tone.
Everyday new cosmetics are launched to attract young boys and girls, these cosmetics are selling virally with a motive to lighten the Asian skin.  But, is “Looking Beautiful” limited to fair skin only. People with brown skins are not beautiful? Possessing beautiful features are not the part of being beautiful? Does a beautiful smile needs any reference to the complexion of the holder? Do you really feel that those captivating and magnetic eyes are restricted to the skin color?

The Irony

No! Not exactly! I don’t feel so. Whenever I see someone smiling I never notice the color of the skin. Today, all models are running for skin lightening and even the girls with ‘not-so-good’ features are getting roles because of the fair skin color. Why? I still remember certain leading actresses in their career start days, they were having ‘Indian skin tone’, but, now they are having ‘very fair skin’ how? It’s all because ‘WE’ the audiences are giving more attention to the color complexion instead of the real beauty of features.

The Stepping Stone

I truly appreciate NDTV for taking the first step towards not showing the ‘Fairness Creams Ads’ and thus starting one of their best campaigns against the wrong notion in the society that, “WHITE IS BEAUTIFUL, DARK IS  UGLY”. Since 2015, NDTV is not showing such fairness cream advertisements on their channel.

The Bottom line

We as parents, as colleagues and mentors should take the responsibility to educate our children, friends and students to see themselves beyond the limitations of skin-color.  As the real beauty is not restricted to color, features and figure etc as you might not be same after some years. But, the real beauty is in the talent, behavior, nature and mainly how you take life as.
