Women’s Day: A Golden
Opportunity
Every year I come across several promises and announcements
on women’s day for the betterment and uplift of the women of our country. Several
programs are organized b y schools and colleges. Several government offices observe
new policies to improve the working conditions of women on this special day. What
about the actions to be taken for throughout the year? All events get over by
the end of the day and so does the promises and vows. Our organizers after
getting their photos clicked and printed in media and social media, get busier
in other affairs.
Why we are concerned about the health and hygiene conditions
of women only on this day and not throughout the year? This is because everyone
wants to do social service just to gain popularity online. Today, even the government
is interested in launching policies and schemes only to stay in the power. Weather
these policies are followed or not is not their matter if concern.
Urban Women : Rural Women
Today urban women’s situation is drastically changed but the
rural women are still living in unhygienic conditions without proper education
and medical services. Every year several women die during deliveries in rural
areas due to lack of medical facilities. Our government has started
van-services to pick-up patients from rural areas to nearest hospitals. But,
why these van-services, why not hospitals in rural areas? Why our government is
spending more and more money on beautifying already developed urban areas and
not on undeveloped rural areas which need lots of attention.
Normally, there is only one or two school in the whole village,
as compared to an urban area where every colony is having one or two schools. Our
government should concentrate on giving license in these less developed areas
to promote and uplift the population dwelling in such areas. Similarly, is the
case of hospitals, colleges and shopping centers, colonies etc?
The Conclusion
I think instead of advertising on women’s day we need to
actually start working towards to actually improve the work conditions of
women.
