Maha Shiv-Ratri , a festival celebrated as the day of
marriage of Lord Shiva with Goddess Parvati. It is celebrated on 13th
night of Phalgun month. On this day, all Shiva temples are decorated with wild
flowers and Lord Shiva’s favorite drink “bhang” is served as “prashad” in the
temples as “thandai”.
Shiva: The Destroyer
The Lord Shiva also known as “The Destroyer” and “The
Mahadeva” of the creation and the supreme power. Lord Shiva is known for his
anger and the stories of opening of “Third Eye”. Shiva is formless, shapeless
and immortal. Shiva is worshiped as “Shakti” and one of “The Trimurti”. The
Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe and “The Vishnu” responsible for
upbringing of the universe and “The Shiva”, the destroyer.
The Meaning of Shiva
Shiva means nothingness, omnipotent and he can only be felt
in one’s consciousness and cannot be seen. Lord Shiva has several names for
several forms,

Nataraja:
The Dancing Shiva
2.
Rudra:
The Angry Shiva
3.
Dakshinamoorthy:
The Yoga Form Of Shiva
4.TheLingam: The Form in which Lord Shiva is worshiped everywhere.
According to the Shaivism, the highest form of Shiva is
formless, limitless, transcendent, unchanging and absolute. As per the Indian
mythology, Shiva is a Brahmin or Yogi , who lives in Mount Kailash along with
his family. His family includes his wife Parvati, Son Ganesha and Kartikeya.
Maha Shiv-Ratri, is celebrated as the day of self-assessment,
self-improvement and self-evaluation. On this day devotees worship Lord Shiva
and meditate for long hours. several “Tantric-Vidya” followers do “Yagya” and meditation
to please Lord Shiva. It is said that whenever, Lord Shiva is angry, he will
open his Third-Eye, as a result of which the whole universe will come to an
end. People fast on this day and chant,”Om Namah Shivay” to ask mercy from LordShiva.
