Steve Irwin: A True Nature Lover



The Birth Of A Legend

Steve Irwin! The name doesn’t need any introduction. A true nature lover was well known all over the world as “The Crocodile Hunter”. His efforts to save animals and discover new breeds of several reptiles and turtles are known. He was awarded with several recognitions and awards by the government for his uncountable works. He discovered a new species of turtle in 1997 while fishing with his father and named it as Elseya Irwini, after his name. Laterin 2009, he discovered a species of air-breathing land-snail and named it after his family as Crikey Steveirwini.

Steve Irwin, was born on 22 February 1962 in Melborne. His father was a wildlife expert and his mother was a wildlife rehabilitator. His parents started a small Reptiles and Fauna Park in Melbourne, where he grew up among crocodiles and reptiles. He was gifted a scrub python of 12 feet on his sixth birthday by his parents. He wrestled with a crocodile at the age of nine. He worked as a volunteer for Queensland Crocodile Management Program and captured over 100 crocodiles.


His Achievements

Steve Irwin, has a long list of awards and achievements in his favor. In 2001, he was awarded Centenary Medal by the Australian government.

In 2004, he was recognized as a Tourism Export of The Year. In the same year he was awarded as Queensland Australian Of The Year.

In May 2007, The Government of Rwanda announced that they will name a baby gorilla after him as a tribute to his works in the wildlife conservation.

In 2007, the state government of Kerala, named a crocodile rehabilitation and conservation center after his name, which was later dismissed by his wife Terri Raines.

Even after his death, Steve Irwin was awarded The Adjunct Professorship Posthumously on 14 November 2007.

In 2009, Steve Irwin was announced as Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame for his efforts and contribution in Queensland business and wildlife conservation and international reputation.

In 2015, he was a posthumous recipient of the Queensland Greats Awards.

He worked with director Mark Strickson to present the show,” the Ten Deadliest Snakes” on Television.

The Death Of a Legend
On 4 September 2006, he was participating in “Ocean’s Deadliest”, while shooting a short tail Stingray, he was stringe in heart by this poisonous creature.
