Triumph: The Secrets Of Our National Anthem
Jana Gana Mana is the national anthem of India. It was composed as “Bharat Bhagya Bhidhata” in Bengali by the poet Rabindranath Tagore. At the time of the making of the Constitution Assembly of India, The first and the last stanza was adopted as our National Anthem. This shortened version was about 52 seconds and it took an extra 20 seconds to play. It was publicly sung for the first time on 27 December 1911 at Calcutta, now known as Kolkata. This was done at the occasion of session start of the Indian National Congress and again on the closing ceremony. Jana Gana Mana was played for the first time in Hamburg on 29 May 1942. India’s Tricolor was hoisted along with the German Flag and then German National anthem was played. “Netaji” was given the highest honor by the Mayor of Hamburg at this occasion.
Our “National Song” was created in 1958, “Vande Mataram” was declared as Indian national song in 1956.
