The Concept
Have you ever thought why people exchange gifts and express love on this auspicious day? There is a real story behind all these celebrations. There was a priest named St. Valentine during the rule of Emperor Claudius II in the third century. This emperor believed that single men are better soldiers than married men with wives and children. He passed a law that no young men will marry. It was the time when St. Valentine’s efforts to reform the Roman society were realized. He not only organized weddings at the church but also tried to save them from the king’s agony.
The Emperor ordered his soldiers to kill and bury the priest. Since that day, Roman’s celebrate this day s the lover’s day in the name of St. Valentine. People all over the Rome celebrate love, happiness, and togetherness on this day. Since 19 century, this day is celebrated in India also, though it was basically celebrated at Christian missionary schools as the Valentine’s Day. Then it grew popularity and is viral now as the best day to express love.
The Conclusion
So, after knowing the basic logic behind the sacrifices of St. Valentine, I believe that the best gift you could give someone you really love and care should be “Your Time, Your Faith and Your Companionship” rather than these worldly and materialistic things like gifts and tokens. These all are perishable and the only best gift which will never fade away with time is the memories and happiness you give by spending time and showering love and faith in the relationship. So, this Valentine Day plans a different gift for your valentine. Surprise him/her with your love, affection and time.
